School Closing Hearing

January 14, 2010
Metropolitan Corporate Academy, Brooklyn

The City is hosting a series of public hearings on school closings throughout the five boroughs. On Jan. 14, the local school community of Metropolitan Corporate Academy (MCA) attended a hearing to address the DOE's decision to phase out the Metropolitan Corporate Academy in Brooklyn. The school has a 47 percent four-year graduation rate and received a "D in the 2008-2009 Progress Report.

Students, parents, and educators disputed the negative statistics and claimed the school is showing improvements with its winning debate team and soaring five-year graduation rate.

William Meehan, CSA Assistant Field Director, testified at the meeting as CSA continues to show its solidarity with school communities.
