Endorsements

The CSA Endorsement Policy

The union reserves the right to endorse any candidate from any party in any local or state race. CSA supports candidates who have demonstrated a strong commitment to public education, childcare and labor issues. All candidates who wish to be considered for an endorsement must contact CSA’s Governmental Relations Department and submit their requests in writing.

Once a candidate's name has been submitted for consideration, he or she will be given an opportunity to share his or her education and labor-related platforms. CSA will send out a union questionnaire to be filled out and returned by the candidate.

Upon its return, some candidates will be endorsed based solely on the questionnaire. For other candidates, CSA will hold screenings, which could be in the form of an interview conducted by CSA members as part of a candidate screening committee.

The union’s officers review details from those conversations/responses, and combined with research and recommendations from our members, lobbyists and staff, make a recommendation for endorsement.

Recommendations are then presented to the CSA Advisory Committee for approval. If approved, a resolution of endorsement from the Advisory Committee is presented to the Executive Board for approval.

To request an endorsement, or to suggest someone for endorsement, please call or email Sondra H. Peeden, Assistant Director of Political Affairs, (718) 852-3000 or sondra@csa-nyc.org
