Testimony/Position Papers
In June, the state law granting control over NYC public schools expired and the system of school governance reverted to the prior statute in effect before 2002. Although the NYS Assembly passed a school governance bill in June 2009, the NYS Senate, due to the chaos that ensued during the spring as to which party was in control, delayed voting on this issue. On August 6, 2009, the Senate finally voted in favor of a school governance bill in which the Mayor maintained administrative control over NYC public schools .
