"No Cuts in Education" Press Conference
CSA President Ernest Logan joined City Council members, labor leaders, educators and parents on the steps of City Hall to express anger over Mayor Bloomberg’s proposal to lay off more than 4,000 teachers.
Before more than a dozen members of the media, speaker after speaker denounced the mayor’s plan. Mr. Logan was among those who called for the city’s wealthy residents to pay more in taxes; Gov. Andrew Cuomo, with Mayor Bloomberg’s support, allowed a surcharge on the state’s wealthy residents to expire. “A lot of people in this city don’t pay their fair share of taxes,” said Mr. Logan. “It’s time for us to have a real conversation about everyone making sacrifices.”
The press conference was organized by Councilman Robert Jackson, who chairs the council’s education committee.
